Absa Bank Ghana, registered in Ghana as Absa Bank Ghana Limited is a subsidiary of Absa Group Limited, a top financial services firm in Africa based in South Africa. Absa Group Limited entered the Ghanaian banking industry after acquiring majority shares of Barclays Africa Group, owners of the then Barclays Bank Ghana.

Thus, Barclays was exiting the African banking sector by reducing its shareholding in Barclays Africa Group to 14.9 percent, selling the rest to Absa Group Limited. In view of this, Absa Group Limited then rebranded Barclays Bank Ghana to Absa Bank Ghana across the country ending on 10th February 2020. As of 2020, Absa Bank Ghana’s total assets were worth GHS: 12.546 billion (US$2.075 billion), out of which shareholders’ equity was GHS:1.948 billion (US$322.2 million).
