Ghana’s telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana will disconnect sim cards on 1st November 2022. This is in line with a directive from the Ministry of Communications and Digitization, which demands them to disconnect all unregistered sim cards.

The ministry announced its mandatory for all customers to register their sim cards with their Ghana. Therefore, as they end the exercise on 31st October 2022, anybody who has not completed the biometric registration must be disconnected.

In view of this, MTN Ghana urges its customers to use their various platforms to complete their sim card registration. Thus, via MTN Agent Point, Service Center, Connect Store, or download the self-service app from the play store and capture their biometrics.

MTN Ghana’s Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Shaibu Haruna speaking on this said,

Elon Musk buys Twitter, a corporate raid or a business move?

Elon Musk buys Twitter, a corporate raid or a business move?

The World’s Richest man, Elon Musk buys Twitter, the popular microblogging platform. He finally takes over the social media platform after months of making moves to purchase it.

After Elon Musk bought Twitter, he tweeted, “The bird is freed.” He symbolically used Twitter’s bird logo, to announce his commitment to making it a less restricted platform. This followed the completion of his $44 billion acquisition on Thursday, 27th October 2022.

Now, to the part where seemingly, Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover is a corporate raid. He sacked key executives of Twitter as soon as he took over the company.

Thus, Elon Musk fired Twitter Chief Executive, Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer, Ned Segal, and legal affairs and policy chief, Vijaya Gadde, according to multiple reports.

He claims they misled him and investors on the issue of the prevalence of fake accounts on Twitter. Also, he noted plans to make job cuts, which left 7,500 Twitter employees on the edge due to a possible loss of their jobs.

However, the CEO of Tesla said he is not going to make Twitter a bizarre absolute free speak platform. This, he assured advertisers in an open letter to them on Thursday.

He said, “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”

Moreover, Elon Musk said he would change Twitter from becoming an echo chamber for hate and division, as well as wants to spam bots on the platform and make the algorithms that determine how content is presented to its users publicly available.

How he intends to do all these, he did not say. Nonetheless, one thing Elon Musk wants everyone to know about why he bought Twitter is that:

“I did not buy Twitter to make more money but to try to help humanity, whom I love.”

Meanwhile, with all these, what do you think Elon Musk’s take over of Twitter is, a corporate raid or a business move?

MTN Ghana, its products and services, all you need to know

MTN Ghana, its products, and services, all you need to know.

The brand name, MTN is an abbreviation for Mobile Telephone Network (MTN). MTN Ghana is currently Ghana’s biggest Telecommunications network. It is a subsidiary of Africa’s largest mobile network operator, MTN Group Limited, formerly known as M-Cell. MTN Group is a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, headquartered in Johannesburg.

The leading operator in Ghana’s telecommunications industry provides digital data services to cellular mobile devices. Thus, it offers voice, data, SMS, and Mobile Money services, among others. Moreover, MTN is also a leader in Ghana’s FinTech industry. With the introduction of MTN’s Mobile Money (MoMo) system, it has grown to be one of Ghana’s largest money transfer services.

Thus, thanks to MTN’s massive investment in its Mobile Money infrastructure, it has grown into the most robust and easily accessible money transfer service. MTN launched MTN Mobile Money in Ghana in 2009, the first ever to introduce mobile money services in the country. Initially, for just money transfers, MTN Mobile Money has now become a payment, savings, and loan platform, a backbone of Ghana’s eCommerce industry.

History of MTN Ghana

MTN began operations in Ghana in July 2006, after MTN Group acquired Investcom, owners of Scancom PLC (GH) Ltd, the operators of areeba. After nearly a year of operations after the acquisition, MTN then rebranded areeba to MTN Ghana but maintained Scancom PLC Ghana as the registered name of the owners, MTN Group in Ghana.

MTN Ghana a Significant Market Power (SMP)

On 12th June 2020, the National Communications Authority (NCA) declared Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) a Significant Market Power (SMP). This was after MTN amassed 57.07 % and 67.78% market share of voice and data subscribers respectively in Ghana. It also has similarly huge numbers on its Mobile Money service, according to the NCA as of 5th June 2020.

Introduction of MTN Mobile Money (MoMo)

Moreover, as the pioneer of Mobile Money service operations in Ghana, MTN has its largest market share. Thus, MTN was the first to implement the Mobile Money infrastructure on its network in Ghana, launching it in 2009.

MTN Ghana’s Initial Public Offering (IPO)

As part of NCA’s regulatory requirements, MTN sold 35% of its equity in an Initial Public Offering (IPO) starting 31st May 2018 to 31st July 2019, selling 4,637,394,533 shares of MTN Ghana. This was in order to allow MTN to introduce 4G LTE in Ghana as directed by the NCA.

Also, that was the first time Mobile Money was used as a method of payment in an IPO. Afterward, MTN developed the service on its Mobile Money platform for the trading of shares/stocks in collaboration with IC securities.

Furthermore, MTN Ghana is now the number 1 most traded stock on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), as of October 2022. It is also the third most valuable on the GSE, with a capitalization of GHS 1,363,000. It trades under the symbol, MTNGH.

Investments

Over the years, MTN has invested massively into its Network Expansions to extend its coverage to most parts of Ghana and also improve its network quality and intensity. Further, MTN offers its customers the best variety of services at affordable rates. Also, MTN Ghana introduced the myMTN Ghana app to ease accessibility to all its services.

Corporate social responsibility

Meanwhile, as part of MTN’s corporate social responsibility, it launched the MTN Ghana Foundation in 2007. Under the auspices of this foundation, MTN undertakes various social intervention schemes, including the provision of healthcare services, healthcare infrastructure, educational infrastructure, scholarships, and livelihood empowerment programs.

Currently, MTN Ghana’s CEO is Selorm Adadevoh and its Board Chairman is Ishmael E. Yamson. The company’s address is Plot OER 5 Independence Avenue, West Ridge, Accra, where its head office is located.

Global iconic vocalist, Adele reveals she is taking a break from music after her Las Vegas residency. She takes the break to pursue her other dream. Thus, her dream of getting a degree and probably becoming a Literature teacher.

On pursuing that dream, she said would have become a teacher if her music career was not successful. Besides that, she really wants to get a degree in Literature.

In a fan Q&A in Los Angeles seen by The Sun, Adele said she will complete an online course to get the degree.

She said: ‘After Vegas, I really want to get a degree in English Literature. If I hadn’t made it in my singing, I think I would definitely be a teacher. I think I’d be an English Lit teacher.

‘I definitely feel like I use my passion of English Lit in what I do. But even though it’s not like I’d go on to get a job from my degree, I wish I had gone to university, I wish I’d had that experience.

‘I won’t go to a university, I’ll do it online and with a tutor, but that’s my plan for 2025. It’s just to get the qualifications.

A call to arms for African builders💪

Over the past few years, there has been a massive surge in the adoption and use of cryptocurrency across the world. In Africa, even though internet penetration is low, the growth has been phenomenal with a 1200 per cent increase in adoption between June 2020 and July 2021. This growth has been likely contributed to by the numerous crypto developers, technologists, investors, advocates, and educationists operating in African bitcoin ecosystems. In Africa, Nigeria is ranked first in the 2021 Global Crypto Adoption Index, followed by Togo, with Nigeria topping the peer-to-peer (P2P) global rankings.

Even though there is a huge driving force behind the scenes for the bitcoin market in Africa, there is little discussion on the tremendous opportunities bitcoin offers and the future of Bitcoin within the continent. This has created the need for increased collaboration among the various contributors to the cryptocurrency industry to reinforce knowledge and resource sharing as well as deepen networking between African actors and those operating in developed nations.

Bitcoin has transformed the way people interact with money and the global monetary system. Over 300 million crypto users have emerged in just over a decade, far outnumbering the annual adoption rate of other digital innovations such as the internet or mobile money. Despite having the lowest internet penetration in the world, Africa has experienced the fastest growth in bitcoin adoption. For example, the BitGive Foundation, which called itself the first Bitcoin nonprofit when it was founded in 2013, is running a pilot of GiveTrack, a crowdfunding website that uses blockchain technology to show donors how their cryptocurrency donations are being spent.

The winners of the ‘Building For Africa’ track will be announced as well as streamed live during the closing ceremony on the 7th of December 2022 at the Africa Bitcoin Conference at Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

Shatta Wale should just shut up about Sarkodie’s career for failing to use Beyonce’s collaboration to grow – Arnold

Shatta Wale should just shut up about Sarkodie’s career for failing to use Beyonce’s collaboration to grow internationally – Arnold

Maybe just like Solomon’s paradox, Shatta Wale has been busy talking about Sarkodie’s music career. He said Sarkodie should be bigger than Wizkid, but Sarkodie failed to use Akon’s opportunity.

However, entertainment journalist, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo begs to differ. First, unlike what Shatta Wale said, Sarkodie’s decision not to sign onto Akon’s record label, Konvict Music, was the best. He explained this in the story below.

Moreover, Arnold said Shatta Wale has no moral right to be complaining about Sarkodie’s career. Shatta Wale should shut up because he has achieved nothing better than Sarkodie internationally.

Thus, Shatta Wale is nowhere close to Sarkodie’s international recognition. So, Shatta Wale cannot portray himself as though he is doing better than Sarkodie internationally.

Besides, speaking of using opportunities, Shatta Wale was not able to use his collaboration with Beyonce to grow internationally. His colleagues like Burna Boy, who was also on the Beyoncé album used the opportunity to grow bigger globally.

Thus, Burna Boy went on to win a Grammy and headline some of the biggest shows in the world, but we cannot say the same for Shatta Wale.

He said “He(Shatta Wale) cannot match Sarkodie’s international presence. It is a fact. How was he able to leverage Beyonce’s collaboration? Since 2019, the likes of Burna Boy have gone on to Grammy and play on big big stadia. Why is Wale not comparing himself with Burna Boy?”

Sarkodie refusing to sign onto Akon’s record label is his best decision ever – Arnold

Sarkodie refusing to sign onto Akon’s record label is his best decision ever – Arnold

Akon revealed he signed Sarkodie to his record label, Konvict Music. However, Sarkodie was not ready for it, so he refused the deal. This happened almost a decade ago, however, it has recently popped up in multiple discussions.

Recently speaking on the issue, Shatta Wale said Sarkodie failed to use the opportunity he had with Akon. However, top celebrated entertainment journalist, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo disagrees.

According to Arnold, Sarkodie’s decision not to sign onto Akon’s record label was his best decision ever. Thus, though it was one of the most important decisions of his career, it was his decision taken.

“Sarkodie not signing onto Akon’s record label is one of the biggest decisions he has taken, if that is true. It’s his best decision,” he noted.

Moreover, explaining why he says so, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo said Akon’s record label, Konvict Music has failed to project any of its signees. Thus, it has failed to help any of its signees to do well globally in recent times.

“Tell me who you know on from Akon’s label. The signees include OJ Boo Dirty, Demarco, Money J, Yaa Boy, Omega amongst others. I am super gratified with where Sarkodie independently has moved his career to where he is,” he said.

“Independently, see where Sarkodie has moved his career from here to that international pedestal,” he added.

Nonetheless, Arnold said Shatta Wale should shut up about Sarkodie’s career because he is nowhere near Sarkodie’s international appeal.

“He (Shatta Wale) cannot match Sarkodie’s international presence…,” he declared. Besides, Shatta Wale was not even able to leverage his collaboration with Beyonce to grow internationally. Arnold was speaking on Peace Fm’s Entertainment News review.
