The situation in Nigeria seems to be going out of hand as their government seeks to employ various means to halt the ongoing #EndSARS peaceful protests. The position of the Nigerian government was awfully glaring when unarmed protesters were shot at at Lekki toll gate yesterday.
In light of this very excruciating development in our sister-country, Nigeria, several foreign celebrities have joined the protest. These celebrities vividly condemned the attacks on the unarmed peaceful protestors at Lekki and also added their voices of solidarity to end police brutality in Nigeria.
The #EndSARS protest has been ongoing for two weeks now and has caught the attention of the world as the hashtag has been trending worldwide. However, though the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari announced that SARS would be disbanded, the brutality is still escalating. The most recent case being the massacre at Lekki toll gate.
The incident took place Tuesday night, when Nigerian security forces opened fire on protesters in Lekki, killing a number of them. Thus, in a bid to stop the two weeks of peaceful protests against police brutality.
All these protesters did was to sit and sing the Nigerian national anthem whiles waving their flags. But they ended up being shot at after the lights were put off and the security cameras there were suddenly removed.
Unfortunately, some of these peaceful protesters ended up being shot dead, and some sustaining severe levels of bullet wounds. However, the deliberate effort to end the #EndSARS protests rather heightened it across Africa and the world.

Moreover, this also increased the number of African and non-African celebrities who joined the protest via social media to register their heartfelt solidarity for the people of Nigeria.
Some of these other celebrities included Kanye West, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nikki Minaj, Naomi Campbell, Chance The Rapper, Jidenna, Big Sean, Trey Songz, Lil Baby as well as former US presidential aspirant, Hillary Clinton. They posted on social media condemning the killings whilst lending their voices to end widespread police brutality in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, SARS stands for Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit in the Nigerian police. Nigeria launched protests against them following several brutality on innocent young people. The protests was largely also triggered after a video of the police killing a man went viral.
