Why Nigerians still come to Ghana to promote their music and movies

0

Why Nigerians still come to Ghana to promote their music and movies.

Why do Nigerians still come to Ghana to promote their songs and movies, I wondered. This got me thinking and ended up as a moment of epiphany.

Ghana has a population of about 30 million people and Nigeria has a population of over 200 million people. This places Nigeria at a far more advantageous position in the entertainment industry where the numbers game is the order of the day.

So why would Nigerians leave their huge population size in pursuit of Ghana’s peasant 30 million people? There came the epiphany.

More often than not, we see Nigerian superstars troop to Ghana for marketing purposes of their films and musical projects. This is although most of these acts have reached far greater heights than most of their Ghanaian counterparts.

This begs the question, what do they see in Ghana that Ghanaians acts don’t? Well, I got some answers to that.

First of all, Ghana is one of the most hospitable countries in Africa, if not the most hospitable country on the continent. In fact, the people of Ghana are hospitable to a fault.

This is because their hospitality tends to make them give more audience to foreigners even far as much to the detriment of their indigenes. Ghanaians are just too welcoming to everything and everyone, they tend to lose touch with their very own.

Secondly, Ghana is the gateway to Africa. The historical, cultural, and political wealth of the nation makes it the top go-to place on the continent. Talk less of it being the home of most of Africa’s best tourist sites.

Last but not least, Ghana represents the prevailing taste and preference of modern-day Africa. That is why December In Ghana is such a big thing on the continent drawing in the highest number of diasporans year in and year out.

Moreover, if anything is big in Ghana, then the rest of Africa would also love it. Thus, though the country is mostly seen as a trend follower, its acceptance or adoption of the trend makes all the difference in its further success.

Lest I forget, Ghana is a fertile ground for all talents to thrive. Patoranking, Mr Eazi, and JZyNo were made in Ghana despite being non-Ghanaians and these are just but a few of such cases. Foreign talents that make it big in Ghana tend to be much more successful everywhere else.

Therefore, this is the answer to why Nigerians come to Ghana for the promotion of their music and movies. Ghana offers Nigeria and the rest of Africa what they find in no other country on the continent and that is easy dominance.

Thus, they are able to easily dominate the Ghanaian music scene and that of movies, the ripple effect of which is more than icing on the cake.

I rest my case.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s drama series Madam is now available on Showmax

Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s drama series Madam is now available on Showmax.

The wait is finally over: all 130 episodes of the first season of Ghanaian drama series Madam have just landed on Showmax.

The Akwaaba Magic series, which aired its finale on Friday, stars four-time Africa Movie Academy Award nominee and Ghana Movie Award winner Joselyn Dumas (Flawsome, Glamour Girls) as Lankai Morgan, a woman on top of the world who will stop at nothing to protect her status.

In Madam’s world of money, sex, power, drama and suspense, few people have managed to stir the pot quite like Lankai. With her captivating beauty and enigmatic personality, she has built up her True Woman Foundation, a noble initiative aiming to rescue disadvantaged women, that paints her as a saviour of the less fortunate. But beneath this virtuous exterior lies a web of intrigue and manipulation that has earned her a multitude of adversaries, including her husband James Morgan and a young, ambitious politician who’s looking to make a name by exposing Lankai’s true nature.

Dumas describes Lankai as a mother, a businesswoman (with both legitimate and illegitimate businesses), a friend and a mentor. “I think she’s able to wear all these caps so well. It’s quite admirable and exciting to play such a character because she’s everything in one,” she says.

Madam is written and directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso, the brains behind other recent hits like the telenovela Dede and the Showmax Original drama series ENO. The award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker is known for telling stories about strong, complex and progressive female characters, and Lankai is no different. She’s fierce, even in her fashion choices, something Dumas enjoys about playing the character.

“One of the things I absolutely love about this character is her fashion sense. Lankai is bold and unapologetic; she wears whatever she wants to wear and that sets the mood and the pace for the rest of the day for her. There are so many similarities between myself and this character in terms of their fashion sense,” Dumas says.

Like Dumas, who she’s worked with before in her groundbreaking series Shampaign and DedeMadam also stars other actors from Frimpong-Manso’s universe, like ENO’s Godwin Namboh and Michael Katahena  and Dede’s Adomaa Adjeman, Jasmine Baroudi and Dean Amegashie, as well as Luckie Lawson (40 and Single), Salma Mumin (The Agency) and more Ghanaian favourites.

Binge the entire boxset of Madam S1 on Showmax.

Shatta Wale’s smart moves in Incoming: would he sin no more?

Shatta Wale’s smart moves in Incoming: would he sin no more?

Shatta Wale is a smart guy and there are no two ways about this. I have always maintained this position on him despite his excesses and the fact that he mostly tries to be over-smart. That explains why we usually have to call him out.

However, what called for this eulogy, especially in these recent times when I have made multiple reports of his goofs? Well, let’s just say he is back on track, by now making the right moves, smart moves I must reiterate.

Shatta Wale’s release of ‘Incoming’ featuring Tekno has been nothing less than a huge success. The first song off his forthcoming Konekt Album has been doing well following its release.

First of all, the song was a strategic collaboration between the Ghanaian dancehall crooner and the Nigerian act. This was evidently aimed at tapping into Nigeria’s wider audience base and making a greater marketing impact.

Moreover, in the build-up to the release, Shatta Wale was on King Perry’s song, Denge. This was another smart move to weather the grounds for the release of his song, Incoming.

It is also worth noting that his recent projects are a collaborative work of his handlers, Fantasy Entertainment and Bankulli Entertainment. Even though his alliance with Bankuli is not the first of its kind by a Ghanaian as Sarkodie did the same with his Black Love album, it is a very laudable move.

Thus, you cannot downplay the impact of the Grammy-nominated producer and his influence on the Nigerian music space. He is expected to open doors for Shatta Wale as he releases his Konekt Album and we cannot wait to see how it all pans out.

Furthermore, the world premiere of the song was done the BBC Radio 1Xtra and has been since been plugged into media platforms both locally and internationally. Excellent moves, I must confess.

Meanwhile, though Shatta Wale’s recent moves are smart and commendable, would he not slip back into his usual old self? Would he sin no more?

This is a CRITICal Critique, I rest my case.

Showmax drops trailer for its new dating reality series Bae Beyond Borders

Showmax drops trailer for its new dating reality series Bae Beyond Borders.

• Bae Beyond Borders is set to stream on Showmax from 23 October

• Gorgeous African singletons looking for love

• 10 weeks of romance, friendships, make-ups and heart-wrenching breakups

 New episodes every Monday

Can love work beyond cultures?

Showmax just dropped the steamy trailer of its new dating reality show, Bae Beyond Borders, which sees four hopeful South African women looking for a Nigerian man to date and hopefully marry as they embark on this unique journey to find love.

They have their pick of 12 Nigerian bachelors from different walks of life. Through online speed dating, the women collectively choose eight men who’ve impressed them the most and then travel to Nigeria to meet them face to face.

Of their eight favourites, the women pick just one man to take back home with them. They move into a gorgeous villa in Cape Town to see if they want to move forward together as a couple. The question is, will our four hopefuls find love beyond borders?

Meet the ladies who will get a shot to find love:

Zezethu Mniki is a 34-year-old from Johannesburg who describes herself as an introvert. “I am a reserved person, but I am also outgoing. I love to dress up and do my make-up and go out and have fun. I love people, I love being around people, I love nature and animals and often enjoy outdoor activities. I also enjoy going to new places and interacting with people of different cultures.”

On why she joined the experiment, she shared, “My colleague is the one who made me aware that there was a dating show that was up my alley. As soon as I saw the ad, I knew that this was something I wanted to be a part of. It spoke to me and I am glad that I followed my instincts and entered.”

Nande Ramcwana (24) from the Eastern Cape holds a Diploma in Local Government Finance and an Advanced Diploma in Public Management. She is currently a YouTuber, content creator and social media influencer. She describes herself as an enthusiastic, self-motivated, reliable, responsible, and hard-working person.

About how this experience has changed her life, she said, “Entering this show changed my life for the better, there were so many lessons I got to learn about myself and that is invaluable. I am going to use these lessons in my everyday life.”

On the drama that ensued during filming, 31-year-old Malibongwe Gumede from Midrand shared, “People need to watch this show because it is super interesting, there are so many twists and turns and their jaws will be on the floor. Nothing is as it seems.”

Malibongwe, who is a radio producer, describes herself as a very strong and dynamic lady. “I love shopping, travelling, and going out with friends to eat some good food and sometimes I can be an introvert and keep to myself.”

Thirty-year-old Vuvu Maseti from Johannesburg is a make-up artist who spoke about how the process was challenging for her. “I am a very indecisive person, so narrowing down the guys to just one was so difficult for me. What if I make the wrong decision, how will I live with myself?”

She describes herself as a proudly South African girl who was raised in Manchester, England. “I love to socialise; I like to think of myself as an introverted extrovert but I’m the life of the party (according to my friends). I’m attracted to intelligent, good-looking, tall men. I love the arts and being able to express my creativity through my make-up work.”

The reality dating show is executive produced by Zinzi Velelo Alake from POP24 who also produced the smash-hit reality show The Mommy Club. Speaking on why she created Bae Beyond Borders she said, “I created this show because I found love beyond borders. I am a South African woman who fell in love with a Nigerian man, and blending our cultures has been life-changing, I found my king!

“The show was also created to unite Africans in love and to shine a light on a different kind of love that people usually do not get to see and I am excited for people to see it,” says Zinzi.

Shatta Wale’s false £80,000 payment claim brouhaha. A taste of his own poison?

Shatta Wale’s false £80,000 payment claim brouhaha. A taste of his own poison?

Shatta Wale was not paid any £80K for his performance at the Ghana Music Awards UK and you do not need rocket science to deduce this fact. How can an organiser who is grossing less than £50K pay someone over 1 million cedis?

Meanwhile, Kwasi Aboagye has the right to report on Shatta Wale’s alleged false claims, it’s part of his job. In fact, he can do that and more as a matter of his journalistic opinion.

However, come to think of it, does Shatta Wale have the right to hit back at him, casting slurs at him and his bosses? Well, yes and a big NO.

Yes because Shatta Wale also reserves the right to respond to Kwasi Aboagye’s reportage to refute or debunk it. He however does not have to utterly disrespect the latter in doing like the way he did.

A big NO because under the law, you can’t attack any journalist for his editorials. Thus, journalistic opinions of journalists are protected by law.

Nonetheless, what did we see in Shatta Wale case? An utter disregard of the law and basic ethics.

Nobody is saying Shatta Wale should not have responded, but he should have done so reasonably. Besides, Kwasi Aboagye’s reportage and subsequent respondence was devoid of such unprintable utterances.

For those pretending as though Shatta Wale is just peeved because he was poked, please come again. The artist in question denigrates anyone at will. So wouldn’t it be just a taste of his own poison if anyone also decides to do same to him?

Well, read what he said about his colleague, Stonebwoy below:

Stop making it look like a spotless maid was pelted with taint, enraging her. Stop making it look like Shatta Wale has the right to disrespect anyone he feels like doing so to and no one has the right to comment on his behavior.

He who comes into equity must come with clean hands.

I rest my case.

Shatta Wale’s dubious Artiste of the Year win, Black Sherif’s stolen glory

Shatta Wale’s dubious Artiste of the Year win, Black Sherif’s stolen glory. Performance for Awards again?

Shatta Wale won Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards UK last night. This came as no surprise to many because they were privy to rumored plans to give him the said award.

He won the award amongst other awards including Most Popular Song of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, and Most Dominant Fanbase of the Year. These brought his award wins on the awards night to a total of five(5) awards.

This is synonymous with what happened at the 3 Music Awards 2019 when Shatta Wale won nine(9) awards after headlining the awards show. You may have heard of the bizarre revelations that later emanated from that, but let us not delve into that.

So we would like to find out from Shatta’s camp whether last night’s awards were just a coincidence or a replay of what happened at the 3 Music Awards.

Meanwhile, in the build-up to the recent Ghana Music Awards UK, there were widespread speculations of a grand scheme to award him Artiste of the Year. According to multiple sources and intel, the organizers were going to give him that award amongst other awards. Lo and behold, that is exactly what happened last night.

The purported script at play was to have him perform at the awards and give him those awards in exchange. Therefore, since he headlined the show, he obviously was just awaiting the crown for his hard work in that performance.

However, this also raises the question of whether or not he truly deserved the awards, most especially the Artiste of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year. This is because his contemporaries like Black Sherif deserved it more than he did due to his indisputable dominance within the year under review.

In view of this, it is safe to say that Shatta Wale’s dubious Artiste of the Year win at the Ghana Music Awards UK 2023 was Black Sherif’s stolen glory. Thus, the Kweku The Traveller hitmaker outworked himself, and the immense feats of his works give adequate credence to this.

Nonetheless, if still in doubt about the merit of this case, read what Shatta Wale himself confessed about his award wins at the 3 Music Awards 2019 via the link below.

Wendy Shay’s car accident, a fatal replay of Ebony Reigns death?

I rest my case.
