Top Ghanaian dancehall award-winning act, Shatta Wale’s interview on Good Evening Ghana(GEG) aired yesterday, really got social media buzzing. The interview with Paul Adom-Otchere saw the dancehall singer making some attention provoking statements, which many could not help but react to. Shatta Wale apart from speaking on issues regarding his music career and the Ghanaian music industry also gave, his take on recent happenings regarding his colleagues.
The ‘Gringo’ hitmaker touched on why he did not congratulate rap icon, Sarkodie on his win at the recent BET Hip-hop awards. This got the most reactions on social media partly because; many were those trolling him with Sarkodie’s big win and for not congratulating him. Though Sarkodie congratulated him for his feature on Beyonce’s latest album, Shatta Wale explained that he did not congratulate Sarkodie in return because Sarkodie was just being fake.
Moreover, he added that Sarkodie’s win at the BETs does not matter to him because it does not add a pesewa to his account. The entire idea of Sarkodie winning does not impress or wow him because others too have been there before. However, Shatta Wale mentioned Samini as one of those who have had nominations or wins at the BET awards in the past. This claim triggered the opposition of many because it was seen to be factually inaccurate.
Frankly speaking, I could not recall Samini winning or getting a nomination at the BET awards, but going through his list of awards and nominations on Wikipedia, there was no trace of a BET award. This got me to reach the partial conclusion that; Shatta Wale most probably goofed in his statement about Samini. Meanwhile, the dancehall crooner went ahead to eulogize his then archrival, Samini for doing his best for the music industry. Nevertheless, he stressed that Samini in recent times is not getting the attention he truly deserves.
Meanwhile, many, including the host was happy with how frank Shatta Wale was, the interview got numerous people talking because some of the statements made were very interesting but yet debatable.
