Ghana has been struck with another tragedy after a military helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom enclave in the Ashanti Region at the wee hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Upon impact, the military aircraft reportedly caught fire and was completely burned down into a wreck.
The helicopter, which carried several high-profile individuals en route to Obuasi for an event, went off radar following the crash. Officials of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed the aircraft carried 8 passengers; three (3) flight crew and five (5) top government officials.
Among the confirmed casualties were two high-ranking government officials, Dr.Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister and Dr.Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister in Charge of Environment, Science, and Technology.
Other individuals who were involved in the crash are: NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Samuel Aboagye, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, along with the three (3) flight crew.
Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, confirmed the casualties in a brief press briefing after news broke of the tragic crash. He ordered that the national flags should be adjusted to fly at half mast as a sign of respect and honour to the fallen heroes of Ghana.
The fatal crash has sent shockwaves across the entire country, prompting the need to prioritise safety protocols to prevent future repercussions. Ghanaians have barely healed from recent losses, and now another tragedy has struck.
The remains of the deceased have been recovered from the crash site and transported back to Accra. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah led a delegation to receive the bodies at the Air Force Base.
The GAF and all stakeholders involved have assured a thorough investigation to uncover the genesis of this tragic incident.
