Despite’s Best Pensions Trust paid me only GHC 500 for the popular ‘Aponkyeniti’ TV advert – TT Taxi Driver reveals

The current woes of veteran actor, Psalm Adjeteyfio better known as TT of Taxi Driver TV series fame has been topical for weeks now. The legend’s situation came to the attention of many after he was seen in an interview begging for financial support.

The actor’s sorry situation has taken several twists and turns after the news broke. Many Ghanaians ran to his rescue whilst others questioned why a legendary actor of his kind ended up becoming a charity case.

It is in light of the numerous criticisms that the actor has revealed that the money he earned  from starring in movies, TV series and even advertisements do not match the fame those works of his gained.

As a proof of this assertion, Psalm Adjeteyfio revealed that he was paid just GHC 500 for starring in Despite Group of Companies’ Best Pension Trust’s popular ‘Aponkyeniti’ TV advert. Thus, despite being the key reason for the success of that TV advert, he received next to nothing for his commendable work on that advert.

Psalm Adjeyteyfio said:

“I contacted Louis and asked, ‘Don’t you have something happening,’ because I’m broke as a Churchmouse.’ He informed me that there was a position available, but that the pay was insufficient. I pushed myself to do it because I was broke and had no other options. As a result, the man stated that he would call his manager and get back to me.”

“He called to say that we could film the commercial, but that his supervisor needed to speak with me first. When the boss phoned, he stated the budget for the advertisement was GHC 300, but because it was for me, he’d want to add something little.”

“He didn’t say how much he wanted to add. I met with the man I filmed the advertisement with during the day of the shoot; there was no script, and we were only given information on what was expected of us. So I invented the phrase “aponkyeniti, Otwiniti ni ti,” and lo and behold, that’s what sold the ad.”
