The Central business hub of Kumasi, Adum Pz has been ravaged by intense fire on Friday dawn. The fire gutted a storage building next to the iconic Despite Building in the Blue Light Market. As the fire intensified it spread to nearby buildings destroying the goods of traders.
Personnel from the Ghana Fire Service and Ghana Police Service were present at the scene shortly after the fire started to put it out. Several shop owners criticized the ineffectiveness of the fire service personnel’s efforts to extinguish the fire.
A fight broke out between the fire service personnel and Adum youth over the poor fire extinguishing process.
Meanwhile, while people were grieving over the loss of property and livelihood during the fire outbreak, two individuals took advantage of the chaos to steal salvaged items from affected stalls. However, the duo has been caught and is in police custody.
H.E. John Dramani Mahama was present at the scene this afternoon to sympathize with traders at Adum Bluelight and Despite Plaza who were affected by the fire outbreak.
