Funkeestas Go Dark and Dynamic with “Unveil”

Independent funk-rock trailblazers Funkeestas are back with “Unveil,” a track that pushes their sound further into the shadows. The band’s latest single marks both a continuation and an evolution of their sonic story as they fused heavy funk grooves, psychedelic textures, and apocalyptic imagery.

Following “Funkery of the Warlocks” and “Gremlins of Funk,” “Unveil” completes what the band calls their “cosmic-funk trilogy.” It’s the final act in a saga that is as imaginative as it is visceral and arguably their most cinematic work yet. The song is pure Funkeestas fire, a dense, rhythmic track driven by deep bass, gritty guitars, and a steady, almost ritualistic pulse.

The lyrics read like battle poetry: “Two maligners whose tongues cut through divine providence.”

Moreover, it is a confrontation of forces, thus venom versus poison, façade versus truth, which is set against the backdrop of thunderous funk-rock instrumentation. The result is a song that feels darkly spiritual, balancing groove and chaos in perfect tension.

The chorus hits with raw power: “They slug, they feast / It’s a silent battle now begins.” It’s not just catchy, but cathartic too.

Unveil The Dark Side of Funk, The Band Behind the Sound

Formed in 2001 in Angeles City, Philippines, Funkeestas have long been known for bending genres and fusing funk with rock, psychedelia, and even metal undertones. The current lineup of Marcus (guitars, backing vocals), Dirtwurx (bass), Rob aka Se7en High (vocals), and Kevin (drums) brings a revitalised energy to the band’s classic sound.

After reuniting in 2023 and reigniting their creative spark with recent releases, “Unveil” confirms that Funkeestas are not just back, but they are evolving. At its core, the song is about exposure, pulling back layers of deceit, conflict, and ego to reveal what is buried. Its lyrics explore themes of hypocrisy, moral decay, and revelation, creating a kind of apocalyptic sermon wrapped in funk-rock intensity.

The word “unveil” itself becomes both an act of rebellion and enlightenment, a demand to face the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it is. The tune is a masterclass in creative reinvention. It is dark, groovy, and unapologetically bold, a song that solidifies Funkeestas’ place as one of the Philippines’ most imaginative and genre-bending indie acts. With its layered sound and fearless lyricism, “Unveil” doesn’t just close a trilogy; it opens a new era for the band.
