Government Rolls Out Microchip Embedded Passport

At the early hours of Monday 28 April, 2025 the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was present to roll out a modernized passport for Ghanaians which featured an embedded microscopic.

This microchip to be embedded in new Ghanaian passports will hold all biometric data of every passport holder. This new improvement will prevent fraud schemes that has flourished over the years as a result of poor security features.

He also revealed that the Ghana Passport Office will commence a 24 hour shift system in order to clear off all backlogs and reduce passport processing duration down to 14 days.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed concern about the elimination of middlemen during passports applications, a move which will slash down costs incurred by passport applicants.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also revealed the introduction of a door to door passport delivery system as well as an electronic tracking (e-tracking) system which will enable applicants to check passport application status in real time.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to transform passport application and processing procedures to make it hassle free hence the introduction of these new policies.
