Guinness World Records finally confirms and certifies Hilda Baci as Longest cooking marathon record holder.
After weeks of limbo, finally, the Guinness World Records announces Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. The Nigerian Chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey was certified and awarded the longest cooking marathon (individual) following her Cook-A-Thon record-breaking cooking marathon.
Hilda Baci broke Lata Tondon’s record set in 2019 to claim the enviable world record. The Indian chef previously held the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) after cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes in Rewa, central India in 2019.
Moreover, to break the record, the new record holder, Hilda Baci cooked for 100 hours. This was despite her initial plan to cook for 96 hours to set a new record. The food was served to the fans who thronged the event venue and the leftover donated to charity precisely the Festus Fajemilo Foundation.
However, since the record had strict rules that must be followed, the Guinness World Records confirmed only 93 hours 11 minutes out of the 100 hours Hilda Baci cooked.
They could not confirm all the 100 hours as part of the time for her record due to a miscalculation of her resting time. Thus, everyone attempting to set or break such a record is granted a 5 minutes break for every hour he or she completes.
She defaulted with regard to this rule by erroneously taking extra minutes for one of her rest breaks. This happened in the early hours of her attempt.
The Guinness World Records HQ deems this a miscalculation, leading to the deduction of almost 7 hours from her 100 hours of cooking.
Nonetheless, Hilda Baci holds the Guinness World Records title for the longest cooking marathon by an individual record and that’s what matters. The cooking marathon lasted four days from Thursday 11 May and continued through to Monday 15 May, and she cooked over 100 pots of food.
