A jury has acquitted hip-hop music star, Asap Rocky of all charges against him for assault. The rapper in a viral video circulating online was seen running to hug his wife, Rihanna after he was proven not guilty in a trial that spanned for weeks.
The rapper was charged with 2 counts of first-degree felony after he shot a semiautomatic firearm at his friend, Asap Relli during a confrontation they both had in a parking lot at Hollywood back in 2021.
This incident garnered a lot of attention on social media due to the popularity of the parties involved. Throughout the legal proceedings Asap Rocky argued that the firearm he was possessing was only a prop and only fired blanks. He argued that Asap Relli’s accusations were partly financially influenced.
If convicted of the charges against him, the rapper could have served a sentence of up to 20 years. He was offered a deal to plead guilty that would’ve resulted in a six-month jail term, but he declined, maintaining his initial stance throughout the legal process.
The trial was eventful. AI-manipulated voice memos intended to disprove Asap Rocky’s defence were introduced, as well as false testimonies from individuals involved in other high-profile cases.
“I want to sincerely thank the jury for reaching the right verdict,” said Aap Rocky after leaving the court premises.
The audience erupted with joy as they celebrated the vindication of Asap Rocky after he was pronounced not guilty by the jury.
