Data Aye Falaaa: MTN, Telecel, and AT Finally Increase Data Bundle Value By 15%

In a significant victory for Ghanaians, the earlier announcement by Minister for Communication and MP for Ningo Prampram, Hon. Sam George, concerning the increase in value of data bundles by telecommunication companies in Ghana takes effect today, 1st July 2025.

Hon. Sam George advocated strongly for improvement in data bundle speed and reduced rates as a move to combat rising costs of data bundle prices and an increase in internet accessibility before his appointment as Communications Minister.

Over the months, Hon. Sam George has actively engaged with CEO’s of the various telcos in Ghana, a move that culminated in the June 10 conference that formalised the 15% increase in data bundle value at the already established prices.

During his engagement with telco CEOs, Hon. Sam George acknowledged the operational costs of these telecommunication companies, stating, “I am aware these increases will come at a considerable cost to the network operators. However, I am glad our engagements are bearing fruit for the Ghanaian people”.

After several dialogues, the various telco CEOs, MTN, Telecel, and AT, agreed to the new directives, and the National Communications Authority (NCA) was tasked with ensuring absolute compliance. The NCA was also tasked to impose sanctions if any of the telcos failed to adhere to the new directives.

The entire Ghanaian populace erupted in excitement as news broke about the 15% increase in data bundle value, starting July 1st.

This directive earned Hon. Sam George several accolades from colleagues, businesses, and the entire Ghanaian masses. Public figures like John Dumelo, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, praise Sam George’s efforts, calling it “a major concern for many Ghanaian internet users” and pledging support.
