Social media has been set ablaze after users expressed their dissatisfaction after Ghanaian rapper Medikal’s YouTube channel was allegedly encroached on by American Tech Billionaire, Elon Musk.
The rapper’s channel was used to broadcast the unveiling of Tesla’s new self-driving AI robot taxi. Viewers were unexpectedly stunned after finding unveiling videos of Tesla’s first AI self-driving taxi instead of the usual music clips they watch on the rapper’s channel.
However, Medikal has taken to his social media platforms to address the issue after recurring questions from fans. Medikal expressed his admiration for the great works of Elon Musk in the tech and automotive fields, but condemned the act, referring to it as “wrong.” The rapper also demanded answers, as he was also left in a state of confusion by the stunt.
This scenario could be one of the common scam tactics employed by black-hat hackers who supposedly take over high-profile YouTube channels, wiping out original content or using it as a means of broadcasting illicit content that promotes their dubious activities. In some cases, clips of staged unveilings of tech monuments are broadcast to look like they’re genuine by using advanced tools to mimic the voice of high-profile individuals, such as the current case involving Elon Musk.
Cybersecurity experts have attributed such breaches to phishing and malware injection attacks that give hackers access to YouTube and other social media accounts of victims and transform them to suit their preference.
This imminent problem of cybercrime has raised concerns over the overall safety of the internet and the negative impact it has on individuals, cooperative organisations and businesses.
