SRC President of the University of Ghana (Legon) has commented on a major problem affecting the student body as a result of the malfunctioning traffic light at Okponglo Junction, Accra.
The traffic light, essential for directing the free flow of traffic and pedestrians, developed a fault several months ago and has since not been fixed.
Guru stated that he had received several complaints from the student body regarding this imminent problem; he reacted promptly by writing to several stakeholders, including the Ministry of Roads and Urban Roads. However, nothing has since been done about it.
Personnel from the MTTD and police are mostly seen directing traffic at the junction; however, there have been an increased number of accidents at the place involving students of the University of Ghana.
Guru in an interview with UTV Ghana stated that the student body has threatened to block the road in a week’s time if nothing is done about fixing the faulty traffic lights at Okponglo Junction.
The Madina-Okponglo stretch is a very busy road that connects several suburbs to the central part of Accra. Having faulty traffic lights along such a busy road endangers the lives of pedestrians and motorists.
The SRC President has urged the appropriate stakeholders to promptly fix the faulty traffic lights swiftly or risk getting the road blocked by students of the University of Ghana.
