Social media was set ablaze quite a few days ago after photos of an alleged LGBTQ+ couple began trending. The couple, believed to be nationals of South Africa, were captured having intimate moments as they enjoyed their honeymoon in Ghana.
This trending photo has sparked a debate all over the media, including direct criticisms targeted at Hon. Sam George by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing the moral disrespect these acts bring forth.
The MP for Ningo Prampram, who doubles as Minister for Communication, issued a stern warning to the said NPP members who are criticising him over the homophobic activities of the said South African tourists, Lue and Rue. He accused the NPP of hypocrisy, stating that those criticizing him now were mute when former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo failed to accent the Family Values Bills.
In his statement, he wrote, “I am shocked to see apologists of the NPP calling on me and demanding action. What a shameless lot!”
He argued that such morally threatening acts currently happening in Ghana are a result of the negligence of Nana Akuffo-Addo, Ghana’s immediate ex-president.
Sam George’s comments have sparked countless debates about the responsibilities of Ghana’s past and current leadership in safeguarding the moral values of the country.
