Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, the 17-year-old Adventist SHS student who was accidentally shot in the eye by a colleague, has successfully undergone surgery, and her sight is fully restored.
Suzzy initially received treatment at local health facilities after the accident; however, doctors proposed the need for specialized eye treatment abroad. Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stepped in to engage with the UK High Commissioner to secure a visa for her travel after Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama offered to cover all her medical bills and travel costs.
On May 10, 2025, Suzzy Pinamang arrived in the UK accompanied by her brother and Rafik Mahama, an aide to Ibrahim Mahama.
Suzzy Pinamang was scheduled for surgery on June 2, 2025, at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and thankfully, it was a success. After careful procedures by health experts, Suzzy regained her sight. She can now see unaided since the accident occurred.
Suzzy is now on the path towards full recovery. What would have been considered the teen’s nightmare has been transformed into a sense of fulfillment.
In a statement, Ibrahim Mahama commended the medical teams in Ghana and the UK, as well as the emotional support shown to the teen by well-wishers across social media and beyond.
