In the ever-watchful world of Ghanaian politics, Sammy Gyamfi, a prominent political figure and core member of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), has been caught in a social media storm.
Sammy Gyamfi began to trend across the nation after a video of him handing suspected dollar notes to no other than a traditional priestess turned prophet, Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
In the video, Nana Agradaa was spotted demanding several dollar notes from Mr. Gyamfi. After handing over the dollar notes as she had asked for, Nana Agradaa triumphantly stated, “I have taken dollars”, as she displayed the dollar notes to onlookers.
The clip instantly blew up, garnering massive attention and comments. The acting chief executive officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) received a lot of backlash from Ghanaians, including prominent political figures.
The trending video sparked widespread criticism, as many questioned the appropriateness of such an act by a public official. Former Kumbungu MP Ras Mubarak expressed concerns about the negative implications of Sammy Gyamfi’s inaction on the performance of the Ghanaian cedi.
Sammy Gyamfi, moved by the massive backlash, clarified in a Facebook post that his actions were just a pure expression of gratitude and were never meant for the public eye.
He also rendered apologies to his fellow politicians and critics alike to forgive him for his inaction.
“To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.” – Sammy Gyamfi.
