The United States of America saw a gargantuan demonstration on April 5, 2025, across all 54 states. The procession, termed “Hands Off”, was publicized to be against US President Donald Trump and his right-hand man, Elon Musk.
The protest was aimed at addressing significant restructuring of federal agencies, economic reforms, and the huge slashing of social service benefits.
Protestors expressed their displeasure about the recent economic reforms implemented by the Trump administration, leading to a trade war between the US and several other countries. President Donald Trump has imposed hefty tariffs on goods imported from other countries into the US, referring to it as “Liberation Day.” This move by the president has jeopardized economic stability in the US.
The protesters also raised awareness about the recent structural change in government, which may result in authoritarian rule. These key reforms in governmental structure remain a threat to the democracy of America.
Several reforms rolled out by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, have become a threat to the livelihood of Americans. Insurance programs such as Social Security and Medicaid have been reduced to nothing, lowering the standard of living of the populace.
The turnout of the nationwide “Hands Off” demonstration was massive, with major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and several more recording the highest turnout.
The Office of the President, in response to the protests, accused protestors of jeopardizing its developmental initiatives by extending support to illegal immigrants.
The “Hands Off” demonstration has earned the spot as the biggest demonstration ever held since President Donald Trump assumed office, evidence of the displeasure of citizens regarding the current government’s administrative policies.
