Gory Accident At Okponglo Junction

An accident involving a tricycle (aboboyaa) and a Toyota Vitz happened at Okponglo Junction. The nearly fatal accident occurred around midday on Sunday, 6th April, 2025.

The two vehicles involved in the accident reportedly crashed head-on as a result of the malfunctioning traffic light at the intersection. Traffic lights at Okponglo junction have been malfunctioning for several months now, and no effort has been made to restore their operation.

Victims of the accident sustained several injuries, with both vehicles deformed. Police personnel were present at the scene to handle the situation.

The SRC President of the University of Ghana (Legon), Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as “Guru,” speaking in a dialogue with UTV, highlighted the dangers emanating from the malfunctioning traffic lights at Okponglo junction.

He further stated how most of his efforts to address the issue proved futile after the responsible state institutions failed to respond to his numerous petitions.

After the dialogue aired on UTV, the attention of the Ayawaso West MP, John Dumelo, was drawn to this pressing problem in his community. Mr. Dumelo reportedly engaged stakeholders. Honoring the MP’s petition, engineers were deployed to the location to help fix the faulty traffic lights.

Mr. Dumelo took to his Facebook page to announce the progress made so far to restore the faulty traffic lights at Okponglo. He assured the populace of the timely completion of the project.

Meanwhile, a few weeks have passed, and the problem still persists, endangering the lives of motorists and pedestrians.

This accident is visual evidence of the danger that lingers around Okponglo Junction due to the faulty traffic lights at the intersection.
