Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley has stated in a press statement that approximately 126 streets within Greater Accra have been fully fitted with streetlights, enhancing vision and mobility at night.
Malfunctioning streetlights in Accra had become an imminent problem that was responsible for most road accidents within the metropolis. However, the regional minister promised to dedicate her first 50 days in office to helping solve the issue.
True to her words, most streets in Accra are beaming with streetlights, enhancing public safety and reducing the rate of road accidents.
She also disclosed that the majority of the electrical parts, including copper cables, were taken from earlier lamps, making them unusable. Mrs. Akweley also gave a stern lecture to the offenders, threatening to put anyone caught in the act behind bars for life.
Mrs. Linda Akweley also used the opportunity to refute the assertions made by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the current minority leader, over the purported absence of lamps along the Jubilee House stretch.
Mrs. Linda Akweley concluded by thanking the media as well as all necessary stakeholders for their continuous support for her and the NDC government.
