Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a 16-year-old secondary school student at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Suzzy sustained severe injuries after she was mistakenly shot in the face by a classmate on Friday, April 4, 2025. This tragic event happened during lunch break after a colleague allegedly smuggled a firearm into the school premises. The firearm was accidentally fired during an altercation, which hit Suzzy in the face.
Having sustained severe injuries, Suzzy was rushed to Kwadaso Hospital, where she received her initial treatment. She was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Due to the gruesome nature of her injuries, Suzzy sought specialised eye treatment at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Accra. Specialists proposed that Suzzy had to travel abroad, specifically to the UK, for a more specialised treatment to avoid losing her sight completely.
Ghanaian business mogul Ibrahim Mahama offered to foot all the medical bills for Suzzy’s specialised treatment in the UK. This kind gesture by Ibrahim Mahama has been greatly appreciated by Suzzy’s family as well as the entire Ghanaian populace.
In response to the urgent requirement of eye surgery in the UK for Suzzy, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that visas have been successfully acquired for Suzzy and 2 caregivers.
The minister also revealed that he has instructed the Ghana High Commission in the UK to provide special consular support upon their arrival.
This tragic incident has attracted massive attention, with many seeking justice. Many are also calling out the designated government agencies to ensure safety measures are properly implemented in schools to curtail further incidents of the like.
