The Ghanaian entertainment industry is no stranger to drama. The latest social media beef brewing between media personality Mona Gucci and actress-influencer Efia Odo has garnered a lot of attention on the internet. This budding beef between the duo has got many people asking who is truly befitting of the title of “celebrity” in this modernised era of technological advancement.
Mona Gucci instigated this beef with Afia Odo after she stated that TikTok creators should not be classified as celebrities in Ghana. According to Mona, TikTok creators are nowhere close to being called celebrities; therefore, they shouldn’t portray themselves as such.
“You are not a celebrity,” she said bluntly, directing her words at Efia Odo. She also directed her backlash at musician and model Sister Derby in a subtle way. She tagged Efia Odo as a “nobody” and Sister Derby as “empty” while she questioned their influence and contribution to the Ghana entertainment industry.
The self-acclaimed legal practitioner has waged a long-standing beef with all Ghanaian TikTokers, and many of them have slammed back at her for her criticisms.
Efia Odo, never one to back down, fired back in a classic style. In a retaliatory statement, she labelled Mona Gucci as “bitter.” Efia also argued that TikTok influencers are gaining recognition and platforms where millions hear their voices, and their impact is on par with traditional stars.
Social media has become abuzz with mixed reactions. While some users support Mona’s argument, others have also aired their displeasure about her utterances, citing the significance of social media creators in the evolving digital space with advancements in technology.
