Pope Benedict XVI is dead, dies aged 95.
Former Catholic Church leader, Pope Benedict XVI dies at his Vatican Residence. He dies nearly a decade after he resigned as Pope in 2013 citing exhaustion.
He became the first Pope to resign in over 600 years of the Catholic Church’s history. Born Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI was the oldest to be elected Pope in three centuries. He was 75 years old then.
Pope Benedict was elected following the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005. His papacy lasted only eight years, before his resignation.
Moreover, prior to these, he was a piano-playing theology professor in Germany before being named the Cardinal of Munich. His service to the church has been an eventful one and it is sad to announce his death. Pope Benedict XVI died today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican.
He was officially Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI. May his soul rest in peace.
