The ongoing mass deportation exercise in the US has amassed lots of attention across the world. President Donald Trump, acting on his promise to American citizens, is sending several illegal immigrants in the USA back to their home countries.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been the main law enforcement agency tasked with executing this mass deportation exercise. The agency has made significant progress as numerous immigrants are arrested and detained on a daily basis.
However, the has been a limitation to the full operation of ICE which has been eliminated by President Donald Trump in a major policy change.
The Trump government through executive legislation, has revoked a key policy that hindered ICE arrests in sensitive places such as hospitals, schools, and churches, and during certain events such as weddings and funerals.
This policy amendment has granted the ICE unlimited authority to conduct arrests anywhere and anytime.
President Trump has also signed the Liken Riley Act into law with provisions that mandate the arrest and detention of illegal immigrants with theft-related crimes and empower various state attorney generals to sue the federal government for insufficient immigration law enforcement.
This new development will further worsen the already jeopardized lives of immigrants in the US, as they live in constant fear.
