Kuami Eugene overthrows Ebony Reigns unprecedented 2-year Artiste of the Year reign at the 2020 VGMA

Pricilla Opoku-Kwarteng, affectionately known by her stage name, Ebony Reigns took the Ghanaian music industry by storm. Before her, none has been able to realize her rate of growth as a female musician in Ghana. Unlike her female counterparts back then, Ebony Reigns was that one female musician to pull off countless massive feats shortly after making a debut into the Ghana music industry.

Ebony Reigns was the first female act to hit one million views on her music video on YouTube within a short time. Thus, she surpassed a million views on YouTube with her Maame Hw3 smash hit within just a week after release, which was unprecedented for a female musician in Ghana. Also, her debut song, Dancefloor as well as her other songs Hustle, Poison, Kupe, Turn on the light, and even the audio slide of her Date ur Fada song got millions of views on Youtube shortly after release. That is why Ebony Reigns could be described as the true definition of a female hit-making machine, a female music goddess for that matter.

Ebony Reigns Songs

Dancefloor, Kupe, Sponsor, Poison, Maame Hw3, Date Ur Fada, Hustle, Konkonsa Police, Aseda, Turn on the light, Bad Gyal Army, Be your driver, twerk, glossy, Bratz, You the one, Grove of Love, Xoxo, Mushy and Bye

Ebony Reigns Death

Fast forward to 8 February 2018, the singer met her untimely death while on her way back to Accra from Sunyani after visiting her mother. The excruciating demise of the singer along with her best friend and a Soldier was because of a traffic collision between her car and a VIP bus. The entire country was shaken by the horrific incident.

Meanwhile, far from the sad part of Ebony Reigns life story, it also worth noting that her life ended within the very year she had unmatched dominance in the Ghanaian music industry. Thus, judging from her number of massive hit songs [Sponsor, Date Ur Fada, Maame Hwe, Hustle and more], the countless shows she headlined and the fact that she was the hottest musician on-demand within the short period of her stay in the industry.

Ebony Reigns won the VGMA Artiste of The Year

The Dancehall singer also pulled off among her numerous unprecedented feats, a posthumous big win at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Ebony Reigns won Afro Pop Song of the Year with Sponsor, Album of the Year with BonyFied and the ultimate award for the night, Artist of The Year. Which was incredibly unprecedented because the coveted award had never been won by a female musician before, but Ebony won it, though posthumously.

Her unprecedented 2-year Artiste of the Year reign

Moreover, Ebony Reigns again had an unprecedented record in her music career, which was her highest and a record which may be impossible to be beaten by any musician any time soon. Ebony Reigns held onto the coveted VGMA Artiste of the Year crown for the longest time ever in Ghana’s music history. Ebony Reigns reigned as the Artiste of The Year for two years[2018 and 2019] and her reign was even further prolonged for additional months this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. How in the world would any musician beat that record?

Why and how

Ebony Reigns reigned as the Artiste of the Year for those two years due to scuffle which occurred between the then archrivals, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy at the 2019 VGMA. The scuffle, which led to the ban of the two acts from the awards scheme and stripping them off the awards they won that year, also caused the non-declaration of the winners for Artiste of the Year and the Most popular song of the Year.

Therefore, at a press conference held by Charterhouse[the organizers of VGMA] and the board of the awards at the Alisa Hotel, Ebony Reigns, who won in 2018, was declared to continue her reign as the ‘Artiste of the year’, since there was no winner for 2019. That was why and how Ebony Reigns reigned as the Artist of the Year for an unprecedented two years.

Few minutes after Sarkodie released his audiovisual press statement about Stonebwoy’s physical attack on his manager, Angelo, Stonebwoy has reacted to it. The press release dubbed Black Love virtual concert press release saw Sarkodie finally addressing the incident that took place between Stonebwoy and his manager.

The BET Award-winning rapper promised that he would speak about the controversial incident only after his virtual concert. True to his words, he just spoke about the incident, which took place during the recording of his virtual concert last week Monday in a press release.

In the press release, Sarkodie confirmed and condemned Stonebwoy’s regrettable act. However, he ended it by accepting the apology Stonebwoy rendered last week and also apologised to Stonebwoy for any fault of his in the issue

Meanwhile, just when we thought Sarkodie‘s press release would bring the case to a final close, Stonebwoy just reacted to it. The dancehall award winner did so in a recent tweet. In the said tweet, Stonebwoy disclosed that he met with Angelo earlier today so that they could settle their differences. Which is why he noted that as far as he was concerned, the meeting turned out a success.

Stonebwoy pushed me beyond my limits – Sarkodie breaks down Stonebwoy’s attack on his manager, Angelo

The issue of Stonebwoy’s physical attack on Sarkodie’s manager, Angelo was leaked in the early parts of last week. It later became the most buzzing controversy on social media. However, the said victim, Angelo, Sarkodie and his SarkCess Music team kept mute about it.

Despite the fact that Stonebwoy’s fans were insistent the report was false, the dancehall singer rendered an apology for his actions before the close of the week. Stonebwoy after confirming his regretful act also debunked the part of the report, which suggested he pulled a gun.

Meanwhile, Sarkodie still kept his silence on the issue throughout this period, stating that he would address the matter after his Black Love virtual concert. Finally, a few days after successfully holding the concert, Sarkodie has now given a breakdown of what Stonebwoy did to his manager.

The rapper made his clarifications about the incident, which took place at the recording of his concert last week Monday in a recent video. Sarkodie disclosed that though he does not normally address such controversies, he thinks it is sometimes very necessary and Stonebwoy’s attack is one of such.

Though Sarkodie confirmed Stonebwoy actually punched Angelo in the face, he still failed to give the full details of the incident. He noted that despite the fact that creative people are very sensitive by nature, it is no excuse for any of their reactions to issues. They are responsible for all their actions, which is why he hardly reacts to issues.

Stonebwoy pushed me beyond my limits

He then revealed that with regards to the scuffle that took place between Stonebwoy and his manager, Stonebwoy pushed him beyond his limits. No one has the right to assault anyone. Though he admitted such incidents normally happen, he added that it is never right and Stonebwoy should have known how to react better. Besides, what Stonebwoy did was the highest level of disrespect.

The Sarkodie and Shatta Wale reunion must be real, not just a pass off– Sarkodie after his historic Black Love virtual concert

Sarkodie’s Black Love virtual concert filled yesterday with so much anticipation. Though most Ghanaians were already fired up for the concert, few days to the d day, the suspense of who will be the surprise act and who gets to perform, took the crave to a whole new level.

The Black Love virtual concert came off yesterday and as expected, Sarkodie pulled off such a magnificently historic show alongside all the Ghanaian acts featured on his Black Love album, with the exception of Stonebwoy. Sarkodie performed the songs on the album with the featured acts Efya, King Promise, Kidi and Sista Afia as well as Akwaboah. The concert also saw a performance from the legendary Yaw Sarpong.

However, the most talked about and probably the most exciting part was when the surprise act of the concert, Shatta Wale showed up on stage to perform with Sarkodie. The dancehall act, Shatta Wale’s stage appearance came as a huge surprise to many people because he previously had a fierce feud with Sarkodie. Though Shatta Wale had earlier called Sarkodie live on the radio on his recent birthday, which was quite a prove they had squashed their beef, Shatta Wale’s stage appearance at the Black Love virtual concert was a much better confirmation of their reunion.

Moreover, the fan bases of both artists, who had also been seriously trolling and hating on each other before then, could not also stop talking about the surprise grand reunion. Meanwhile, one thing that comes to mind after witnessing this reunion myself is this statement from Sarkodie.

“If it [a reunion] should happen, it should happen only when it’s real. I am not a pose for the camera kind of person”

READ ALSO: Sarkodie shuts down Ceek’s website with over 2 million massive traffic for Black Love Virtual Concert

Sarkodie made that statement in the earlier months on The Dentaa Show, which means that judging from Sakodie’s own words, the Sarkodie and Shatta Wale reunion we witnessed yesterday must have been real and not just a pass off. According to the rapper, he would only do that kind of reunion only when it is real, thus both parties are truly in good terms. He would never act out or stage a reunion.

Therefore, if you had doubts about Sarkodie and Shatta Wale’s reunion last night, Sarkodie’s own words of never faking such reunions, may just be prove enough. Why would one even doubt it in the first place?

Sarkodie shuts down Ceek’s website with over 2 million massive traffic for Black Love Virtual Concert

The much anticipated virtual concert of Ghana’s multiple BET award-winning rapper, Sarkodie, Black Love Virtual Concert ended as an unforgettable history-making success. Though a large number of the fans, who were craving to catch the show live on Ceek, were unable to do so, the show still turned out a record-setting success.

Most people were not able to watch the show on Ceek as planned, because the overwhelming number of traffic[website visitors] that wanted to log on to the website of the video streaming platform. The numbers were too massive, the website could not contain all those numbers at ones, which caused it to break down. Therefore, leaving many people unable to watch the show on the platform as initially planned.

Moreover, according to the statistics, Sarkodie and his Sarknation shut down Ceek’s website with over 2 million traffic trying to log in within the same time. That was why many of those who trooped in to Ceek, to watch the Black Love Virtual Concert were unable to do so.

However, to provide an alternative for those who were still unable to watch the concert on Ceek, even after technicians had tried to manage the increasing numbers, the video streaming platform finally streamed the show on their Facebook page too. And that was what many of those who wanted to watch, despite all the challenges had to fall back on.

At the end of the concert, aside from the over 2 million people who tried to watch the show on Ceek, many of whom could not watch. The Black Love Virtual Concert was able to amass a viewership of over 300 thousand people, watching from Ceek and Facebook, which was definitely historic.
